    Caramel Apple Pie


    Pie Crust:
    1 cup flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/3 cup shortening
    Pie Filling:
    7 to 8 apples, sliced
    3/4 cup sugar
    1 Tbsp. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1 1/2 Tbsp. butter
    Pie Topping:
    1/2 stick butter
    1/2 box dark brown sugar


    For the crust, mix flour, sugar and shortening until
    crumbly.  Add cold water 1 Tbsp. at a time.  Mix
    until forms a ball.  Roll out mixture on floured board
    and press into 9 inch pie plate.
    For the filling; mix sugar, cinnamon, and flour
    together.  Pour over apples.  Pour apple mixture
    into pie crust and dot with butter.  
    Bake at 425 for 15 minutes, then 30 minutes at
    For the topping; melt butter on low.  Add 1/2 box of
    dark brown sugar.  Stir until smooth.  Pour over
    warm apple pie and let stand until topping sets.
    Serve with ice cream.
